SOUND:

For the short film we looked for music on youtube, and final cut pro. We used youtube becase they have popular music our target audience can relate to and it is of best quality. We wanted something catchy to remember the film by but not too jolly because our genre is still horror / thriller to build tension, emtotion, mood and suspense. We got muisc from Mike Mills channel and Kanye West's channel and we wrote copyright emails for permmission whch is shown on our blogs. The other sounds was the digetic sound of the radio broadcast which was the only dialogue for a sense of realism and so it is the main point of focus and becomes less confusing. The other non digetic soundtracks we used were the ones from final cut pro of natural music and the radio introduction sounds. These worked well and we also changed the pitch and levels of each sound so they're not too loud or too quiet so that they blend and aren't too harsh. Roland Barthes theory links to this from his theory on sound codes which tells the story through the use of only music, and that really worked for us instead of it being silent the music brought back emotion and in a way guided the target audience through the narrative, especially because it is fast track which represents danger according to Barthe again.

Throughout the beginning scenes is where there was mainly digetic music of rustling leaves and birds. We did this because it made it more real and professional instead of just putting in harsh music we wanted a feel of the environment we were in. The forest was very peaceful there were no sounds to withdraw filming and in the cargo. This also links to Barthes other sound theories again because he says that the sound effects used should be appropriate in order to make the film more realistic.
